Speaking in Ryde earlier today, NSW Labor opposition leader Luke Foley said the Liberals are nowhere to be seen.

“The state government has gone missing, they are in hiding,” he said.

RANDWICK MAYOR NOEL D’SOUZA SAYS RESIGNATION FROM LABOR PARTY AKIN TO CHOICES MADE BY MANDELA, GANDHI
"In Sydney, the Illawarra, and in country NSW you can’t find a member of the state government despite their best efforts over the past couple of years to force mergers.

“The state government’s refusal to ban property developers means many councils will see the election of self-interested developers and real estate agents.

“And all these Liberals are suddenly independent in so many council areas.”

Local council elections are undemocratic.
Through quirks of history, local government elections in five Australian states are subject to unfair rules that have no place in Australia’s 21st-century democracy, argues Ryan Goss.

“The votes are coming in and we’re looking forward to working toward timely and accurate results,” NSWEC spokesman Richard Carroll told AAP. In the Central Coast, where 94 candidates competed for just 15 positions on the newly created council, former stalwart mayor Doug Eaton’s campaign came under fire for an allegedly misleading SMS campaign.

A screenshot provided to AAP showed a text message promising better roads for the region if Mr Eaton was re-elected.
Some described the text as misleading because its author was listed as NRMAA, similar to the acronym used by the nation’s peak motorist group the National Roads and Motorists’ Association.
But the NRMA quickly distanced itself from the text message, News Corp Australia reported.
The NSWEC confirmed the matter had been referred to them to consider if the campaign had potentially breached any electoral rules.
Mr Eaton’s campaign has been contacted for comment.
Final results are expected to be completed by September 16, but candidates vying for the position of mayor by a popular vote should start to get early indications as early as Saturday night.
