We know the ATO is a dynamic organisation, but Commissioner Jordan sure is keeping us on our toes. On Tuesday afternoon, without notice, Second Commissioner Geoff Leeper submitted his resignation, and it was accepted. Commissioner Jordan moved promptly to fill the vacancy temporarily, escalating First Assistant Commissioner Frances Cawthra from her role as Chief Finance Officer to acting Second Commissioner, at least until October 2016. Just as well the Public Service Commissioner’s Directions were changed to allow appointment to higher duties of no longer than 6 months without going through a merit process (the previous limit was 3 months).
